Vector
vs Bitmap what is the difference?
Let’s start by talking about
File formats used in each of them
Images are either in vector or bitmap
Bitmap uses pixels which means once it is resized it will
lose its quality. It is best used for images like photographs. It is not
recommended to design Logos using this format.
On the other hand, vector files don’t use pixels which means
that when it gets resized, it will not lose its quality. It is best used for
designs that are intended to be resized to be really large like advertisements
used in billboards. Logos are best designed using this format.
Vector files can be converted to bitmap but the opposite is
not true.
Adobe Illustrator and InDesign use vectors but Adobe
Photoshop uses pixels.
When to use Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or Adobe InDesign?
Secondly, what is the main usage
of each app?
Adobe Illustrator:
Since Adobe Illustrator uses vectors, it is best for logo
design, Business cards, Advertisements and most other graphic designs that are
used on screens or printed.
Adobe Photoshop:
Adobe Photoshop, as you can conclude from its name, is best
used for photos. You can edit images professionally. It provides you with
nearly all the needed tools. Once you know how to use them you will not need
anything else besides Adobe Photoshop. You can retouch images change their
color or even manipulate different images together.
Adobe InDesign:
Adobe InDesign is mainly used for editing, creating, and designing documents. That includes PDF files, Books, or even that school assignment. It is best used for multi-page projects.
In conclusion, it all depends what is your usage
On what you need to make
